These collages are an experimental series in which I tried to express abstract and mental distress through body and form modification.
I like to think that my work centers in the dialectics between organic and inorganic matter, that being, I seek to explore the overall divergence of the human’s perception of “self” among today’s industrial and technological society.
The series was created through a feeling of overall falsehood - a feeling in which I came across at several occasions in life. That moment when you realize the spectacle in which we are inserted in: "the decline of being into having, and having into merely appearing.” – Guy Debord, “La Société du spectacle”.
That stands as the absence of truth.
As anticipated, the repercussions on the human mind are numerous. It affects how we think, act, work, love and live. And how we feel, of course. “Feel” - that is the main research field.
With that in mind, “Body Portraits” served to me as a tool to explore myself and to come across some of my own struggles. Even though a spectacle society holds a well known coercive force, I could not fight such mentality. In that sense, “Two Figures getting sick” was created – a frame in which we see a pregnant woman who falls sick because of her own creation.
